Getting started · chapter 06 of 08

Schedule reports for a real review rhythm

Reports should support a recurring decision. Define who reads the report and what they decide before selecting variables, charts, or delivery frequency.

Practical guideOutcome: A scheduled report whose scope, interval, recipient, and data-quality expectations match an existing operating review.

06.1

Write the report brief

A daily service report, weekly operations review, and monthly management summary need different levels of detail. Record the reader, decision, interval, assets, and delivery timing in one short brief.

  • Named reader and review meeting.
  • Asset or fleet scope.
  • Reporting period and timezone.
  • Measurements, states, exceptions, and operating notes.
  • Delivery channel and accountable owner.
06.2

Show performance and exceptions together

Include the headline measures needed for comparison, then make exceptions and missing data visible. A clean average can hide an outage, a stale device, or a short but consequential excursion.

  1. 01Choose the measures and aggregations that match the operating question.
  2. 02Include units, asset identifiers, reporting interval, and timezone.
  3. 03List events, downtime, missing-data periods, and unresolved actions.
  4. 04Add comparison only when the baseline is defined and trustworthy.
06.3

Verify the first scheduled delivery

Compare the first output with source readings and known events. Confirm recipients, delivery time, period boundaries, and how corrections are handled when late data arrives.

Completion check: the report reaches the intended review, the values reconcile with source data, and exceptions cannot disappear inside aggregation.

Connected-product assessment

Bring one product. Leave with a clear next step.

Use 30 minutes to test the fit around one product and one blocked decision. If there is a fit, we will outline the two-week Product Blueprint.
